By The Cooks Are Coming 2 Dinner

Nestled in the eastern area of The Beach is a fairly new interesting place to dine. Open since early this year, it is located at 2222 Queen Street East. Pomegranate " House of Culinary Passion".

We were greeted by friendly staff and taken into a warm and casual atmosphere. The brightly decorated room seats approx. 26 patrons and has an open kitchen. With the windows opened to the sidewalk, passerbys stopped to chat at this neighborhood meeting place. There was a comfortable diner feel to the place, but the food was most definitely from a learned chef.

Ali, our server, was most informative as she explained how Reuben the owner / chef was going to prepare a tasting menu for us to sample.

With a nice selection made from the wine list, The Cooks treat for the evening began. Pomegranate cannot be classed as a certain type of restaurant. After sampling most of the menu, we would have to say; it is Italian with a subtle Indian flare to it as Reuben uses a wide selection of spices and herbs in his salads and pastas.

Reuben prepared a selection of appetizers beginning with a spinach salad, mixed with artichokes, raisins, and pine nuts in a lemon vinaigrette. Our second selection was mussels prepared in a tomato, white wine and cilantro sauce and a second salad consisting of fennel and watercress, wild pickled sour cherries with a coconut cream and Dijon dressing--an amazing combination of flavors.

Our last and most favorite appetizer was the chefs special creation of sautéed mushrooms--portabella, oyster and shitake served on toast and then topped with cheese sauce and baked. This secret recipe was shared with us -- however we have been sworn to secrecy!! ssshhh

Onto the main courses--we each ordered something different so we could share--of course!! A pasta, which was fettuccine with tiger shrimp, scallops, in a coconut cream curry sauce--very tasty, and the other the meat special that day--filet of beef, with a mushroom sauce, wild rice and vegetable. Needless to say, we were quite filled and sipped on wine, while we contemplated even the possibility of dessert.

Desserts are supplied daily, chef selected and baked fresh for Pomegranate. Today it was chocolate fudge cake. We had to pass, but will save it for another visit, which Im sure will be soon.

Reuben offers a daily fish special as well, which was marlin along with the regular salad, pasta, and meat specials offered

The menu offers sandwiches served on a 9 grain toasted bun, combining intriguing vegetarian or meat combinations, for a lighter lunch, as well as Saturday & Sunday Brunch, something The Cooks will be looking into on our next trip to The Beach on the weekend.

Dinner for two at Pomegranate with wine for $75.00
