Farmer Schmidt and the Nanny State

Poor, beleaguered farmer Michael Schmidt, eking out a meagre existence on his dairy farm near Durham, Ontario, is in hot water again, for selling unpasteurized milk. He was nailed about 12 years ago for the same horrendous crime, by our heroic public health officials. An epic battle ensued, pitting David against Goliath. Farmer Schmidt lost that battle, but vowed to continue his fight to provide his customers with what they wanted.
He had to sell about half his farm to pay his lawyer, for daring to challenge the keepers of public moralities and overseers of our health and welfare. Well, guess government bureaucrats had nothing better to do on November 21, 2006, than to order the raid of Farmer Schmidt's half-farm again, search and destroy, rape and pillage, all under the watchful eye of armed goons.
Oh sure, we gotta’ ensure public health is secure, can't have a renegade, hotshot cow milker doing as he pleases, selling vile untreated moo juice to customers who can't stomach the processed stuff, no sir. That stuff's teeming with germs ya’ know. Can't have anyone getting sick, not on our watch, uh-uh.
What's that? Our grocery store shelves are brimming with pesticide-laced fruits and veggies? Doesn't matter. As long as we get our Canada Food Guide daily recommended dose, that's the important thing.
Huh? Our meat, so seemingly fresh, nicely coloured and cleverly displayed in our local grocery store is riddled with growth hormones, antibiotics, prescription drugs and parasites, and is not fit to eat? Don't be daft. It's all been inspected and approved by health officials - it's good for you. Lots of iron and protein. Don't worry, our public health bureaucrats are looking out for our interests. We're in good hands.
Now what are you muttering about? You say our toothpaste, soap, shampoo, conditioner, hair colouring concoctions and a myriad of other products we use every day, are chocked full of known cancer-causing poisons? Bah, couldn’t be. If that were the case, surely our righteous public health officials and armed Gestapo would raid these establishments, confiscate computers and records, destroy the contaminated merchandise, close down these evil outlets, charge the owners, and go after the mighty multinational conglomerates producing such toxic brew.
Now what? Flu shot? Of course I've had mine. Highly recommended by our trustworthy, learned, omnipotent public health officials. Don't be silly. They can't still be using mercury in vaccines – or dental fillings, for that matter - that stuff is lethal. Even I know that.
What are you ranting about this time? Why, you ask, is the health of our population in such decline if we've been so wonderfully looked after by pharmaceutical companies, prescription drugs, medical science, rules and regulations, and of course, our tremendous public health officials? Why are there alarmingly higher rates than ever before in history, of diabetes, asthma, allergies, ADHD, ADD, Asberger’s, autism, birth defects, cancers of every kind, heart disease, and obesity?
I dunno. Surely you're not suggesting these afflictions could in any way be related to our ingestion of, or exposure to, our poisoned foods, adulterated meat, fluoridated-chlorinated drinking water, mercury-laced vaccines, carcinogen-laden toiletries, overly- or incorrectly- prescribed drugs, processed, refined, sweetened, additive-riddled food, and so forth? Utter nonsense. You're a crackpot!
You say that as just one example, fluoride is lethal? The average tube of toothpaste contains enough fluoride to kill a small child, according to Journal of Public Health Dentistry, :150-8)? What? You’re saying that there have been hundreds of studies linking fluoride to birth defects, brain damage, cancer, osteoporosis – and ironically tooth decay?
Surely if that were the case, our health officials would have sent raiding parties to break into water treatment plants and dentists’ offices all over the land, and to the headquarters of the Canadian Dental Association, and seize equipment, harass, arrest, sue and put these dastardly merchants of death into prison.
Our government officials are looking after our health and welfare. We see this in action when they do such things as raid a farm, terrorize unarmed hard-working farm folk, destroy their reputations and their lives. It's for our own good.
And that's why nonconformists like Michael Schmidt, threatening the very survival of our species by daring to flaunt the law and sell untreated milk, must be hunted down and harassed, intimidated, incarcerated, and villainized as the heinous criminal he is.
Besides, our government bureaucrats have a right to defend their prestige, affirm their omniscience, and protect their stellar careers, flaunt the string of impressive credentials and letters following their names, don't they? Degenerates like Farmer Schmidt had better watch out: Hell hath no fury like a vindictive, petty, constipated bureaucrat scorned.
Dr. Murray McQuigge has warned the public of the dangers of drinking unpasteurized milk. People have gotten sick from drinking such filth. Why, people have even known to have died from following this practice.
And I’m sure the learned doctor is right. He has no reason to lie or misrepresent the facts. But he would bolster his credibility in the public eye by citing statistics for what other things make people sick, and/or cause their deaths, and so put things in their proper perspective.
Please inform the public, Dr. McQuigge. How many people get sick each day, and/or die, from:
Smoking, or being exposed to tobacco smoke
Alcohol abuse or drunk driving or being hit by a drunk driver
Eating fruits and vegetables sprayed with pesticides and herbicides
Eating processed food to which artificial colours, artificial flavours, and artificial sweeteners have been added
Overexposure to radiation from x-rays, power lines, nuclear power plants
Ingesting chorine and fluoride, plentiful in our drinking water and in our food
Being at the receiving end of mistakes made by doctors and hospital staff
Lethal combinations of both prescription and non-prescription drugs
Side-effects of drugs, vaccines and other legal but potentially deadly substances (just one example – acetaminophen, in such products as Tylenol – how many people irreversibly damage their livers from taking such medication?)
Breathing in toxic fumes such as formaldehyde found in our furniture, carpeting, and building supplies; the list could go on – there are many hundreds of toxic substances we ingest and breathe in, every day
Ingesting mercury through a variety of manufactured products
Drinking unpasteurized milk
Please show us the facts and figures, Sir. Then try justifying the extent to which Michael Schmidt is being persecuted, while others in government, industry, manufacturing and medicine are not being held accountable for their crimes against public health.
